Privacy Policy

Effective Date: May 24, 2026

Mapen is a brand operated by NEWISE LLC. Mapen is a visual thinking tool that turns text, YouTube videos, documents, webpages, and AI conversations into editable mind maps and other diagrams. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect or process, how it is used, how it is stored, and your rights regarding your data.

1. Information We Collect and Process

Mapen collects and processes limited user data strictly necessary to provide its core functionality. This may include:

  • Account Information: When you create an account, we collect an email address (and password hash if using password authentication) for authentication and account management. If you sign in through a third-party provider, we receive the basic profile fields that provider supplies (e.g. name, email, avatar URL).
  • User-Provided Content: Text, markdown, URLs, and uploaded documents (PDF, Word, PowerPoint, Markdown) that you submit to generate mind maps or other diagrams.
  • Video and Webpage Content: Publicly available content from YouTube links or web URLs you explicitly provide, used solely for summarization.
  • AI Chat Content: Conversation content that you explicitly choose to summarize from supported AI chat platforms.
  • Generated Output: Mind maps and diagrams produced by Mapen on your behalf, stored to your account so you can revisit and edit them.
  • API Usage Data: For users of the Mapen REST API, NPM package, or Claude Code skill, we log request metadata (token identifier, endpoint, timestamp, status, payload size) for operational and rate-limiting purposes.
  • Locally Stored Data: For the optional browser extension, generated mind maps and editing history may be stored locally in your browser using its storage API.

Mapen does not collect payment information directly. Payments are processed by third-party payment providers in accordance with their privacy policies.

2. How We Use Your Information

The information processed by Mapen is used solely to:

  • Generate mind maps, diagrams, and brainstorming output at your request.
  • Enable editing, organization, and visualization of your content in different views and layouts.
  • Support import, export, and sharing features initiated by you.
  • Provide API access, enforce rate limits, and operate the developer-facing services (REST API, NPM package, Claude Code skill).
  • Improve usability through stored preferences such as layouts, themes, and display modes.

Mapen does not use user data for advertising, behavioral profiling, or cross-site tracking.

3. Data Storage and Retention

  • Account Data: Stored on our servers for as long as your account is active. You may delete your account at any time, after which associated content is removed within 30 days.
  • Generated Content: Mind maps saved to your account are retained until you delete them.
  • API Request Logs: Retained for up to 30 days for operational, security, and abuse-prevention purposes, then deleted or anonymized.
  • Transient Processing: Content transmitted for AI processing is handled temporarily to generate the requested output and is not retained by Mapen after the processing is completed.
  • Local Storage: For the browser extension, local data remains on your device unless you choose to delete it.

You may remove account data at any time through the account settings page, or by contacting us.

4. Third-Party Services

To provide AI-powered summarization, brainstorming, and diagram generation, Mapen transmits selected content to third-party AI service providers acting as data processors. These providers may operate in different jurisdictions and process data in accordance with their own privacy policies. They process data solely to generate the requested output and do not retain, reuse, or sell the data for their own purposes.

Mapen does not sell user data and does not share data with third parties for marketing or advertising purposes.

5. Browser Extension Permissions

If you install the optional Mapen browser extension, it may request the following permissions:

  • activeTab / scripting: To extract and structure content from the tab you explicitly select.
  • storage: To store mind maps, history, and preferences locally on your device.
  • host permissions: To run on pages you choose to process. Content is accessed only as part of user-initiated actions (e.g., clicking “Summarize” or opening Mapen for the current page), not for advertising or cross-site tracking.

6. Data Security

Mapen uses secure communication protocols (HTTPS) when transmitting data between the client, our servers, and third-party AI services. Reasonable technical and organizational measures are implemented to protect data against unauthorized access or disclosure. API tokens are stored hashed and can be rotated on demand.

7. User Choices and Controls

  • Access and Export: You can view and export your saved mind maps from your account at any time.
  • Delete Data: You may delete individual mind maps, revoke API tokens, or close your account from the account settings page.
  • Local Data: Uninstalling the browser extension removes all locally stored extension data.

8. Children’s Privacy

Mapen is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in the user’s jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under this age. If you believe a child has provided personal information, please contact us so we can delete it.

9. Changes to This Policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated periodically to reflect changes in functionality, legal requirements, or operational practices. Updates will be made available at this URL with a revised effective date.
